Welcome to Fulwell Junior School !
Fulwell Junior School is a very special place. From entering you will be greeted by a warm, friendly and vibrant atmosphere. Everyone in the FJS ‘family’ is valued and encouraged to achieve their best in all aspects of school life. We are a school with traditional values, a traditional building, but a modern approach to education.
In our Ofsted Report of November 2006, we received an 'OUTSTANDING' judgement;
the report also stated that, in comparison to other schools, "they do not come much better” than ours.
We love our school and take great pride in the facilities we provide. Bright display, modern resources and effective use of rooms ensure that the environment is both stimulating and highly rewarding. You can be confident that your child will receive the highest standard of education. We aim to provide all children with an ethos that they can carry with them throughout their lives, developing not only their academic abilities but equipping them with sound moral values, a sense of citizenship and aspirational beliefs.
Fulwell Junior School is an inclusive and supportive environment for children to learn within; we offer a curriculum that is diverse and motivational – as reflected in our Ofsted inspection of 2006:
Ofsted: “The curriculum is outstanding. It is lively and interesting, stimulating and motivating. It fully meets requirements and responds well to national initiatives. However, it is managed in a style that is entirely in keeping with the spirit of the National Curriculum, completely at ease with the ethos of the school and appropriate to the
different needs of individual pupils. It is particularly effective in providing pupils with basic skills in literacy, numeracy and information and communication technology but also with the skills needed for future learning. Its powerful provision for pupils’ personal and social development is clear in their extremely positive attitudes and mature manner of conducting themselves. It is rich in opportunities to learn from visitors into school, visits out of school and in its comprehensive range of flourishing activities out of school hours. Special projects continuously refresh learning, giving pupils deep insights into self and others.”
We realise, however, that a successful school can only function effectively with positive input from our stakeholders. We value the support we receive from parents and like to operate an ‘open door’ practice. We hope that everyone associated with the school feels they may approach us with any query or concern, and that we will do our utmost to help.
We very much hope that you enjoy looking at our website; if you would like any more information or would like to visit the school, please contact us via the link on the site.
School Hours:
School commences at 8.55am every morning and finishes at 3.30pm. Lunch is from 12.00pm to 1.15pm.![]()
Children should be in the school yard NO EARLIER than 8.45am, as there are no staff on duty until this time. This is for their own safety and we would appreciate parents observing our guidance in this area.![]()
Children should enter the school yard via the gates on Chapman Street. The Sea Road entrance is for vehicular access ONLY and anyone noted to be entering the school grounds via this entrance will be kindly asked to re-enter the school at the Chapman Street entrance.
Chapman Street is a no-through road and bringing a car into the street is extremely difficult during the peak times of the day. Although it is not an area we can control ourselves, we would ask parents NOT to bring a car into the street if at all possible as the area gets very congested with pupils and parents. We must do our best to ensure school is a safe environment for everyone - inside and out! ![]()

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION:
There is information included on the 'Parents' page of the website detailing the responsibilities public bodies have regarding the Freedom of Information Act.
From January 2009, all schools are expected to adopt and mantain a revised 'Publication Scheme' based on the generic model approved by the Information Commissioners Office. To ensure Fulwell Junior School are meeting the requirements of the Act, we have produced a guide to the information available from the school under the model publication scheme. This details the sort of information we are obliged to provide under the Freedom of Information Act, and how this information can be obtained by the public. The link below will take you to the Guidance document.
Should you have any queries regarding any area of Data Protection or Freedom of Information, please contact the School Business Manager in the first instance, who will be pleased to assist. There is also a section of the School Brochure dedicated to this subject, should you need any further clarification.
