Important information for Year 5 parents:

Thank you to everyone who attended the recent information session regarding preparation for the October trip to Derwent Hill. We hope you found the meeting useful, but in case you couldn't join us, or just want a reminder of some of the more improtant facts, check out the following information. The slides shown on the evening are also available at the bottom of the page.

We cannot stress the importance of getting medication to us in a timely and organised manner; with over 75 children taking part we need to ensure those children with specific medical conditions have their needs fully met. We would kindly ask you to provide new medication specifically for Derwent Hill - we will NOT be taking what we currently hold in the classroom. Travel Sickness: If your child is prone to travel/motion sickness, it is important that you obtain a prescribed treatment for them to take. In the main this will be necessary for the journey to and from Derwent Hill but as we are also out in the mini bus during the day, it will be necessary to provide a sufficient course for the whole week. In all instances, can you complete the treatment/dosage etc. on the appropriate Derwent Hill Medical Form (available for download from the list of documents below). Medication should be handed in to reception, clearly labelled, by Friday 18th October AT THE LATEST, earlier if at all possible. Please ensure asthma inhalers are also handed in - don't pack them away in your childs bag as they will need to have them on their person when we get on th coach.

Equipment : Stick to the recommended kit list. There is no need to buy waterproofs or walking boots as Derwent Hill provide all of that equipment. Don't pack garments of value or anything that you would not want to get dirty. Warm smart casual clothing is recommended for times in the house, but please don't pack novelty slippers or flip-flops as they are a tripping hazard and there are many stairs to the dormitories etc. Pack plenty of layers for the outdoor activities as it will be chilly out in the hills.

What NOT to bring:

  • Mobile phones/iPads/electrical devices/cameras are not allowed AT ALL
  • Fit bits or watches
  • Jewellery : Please remove all ear-rings as they are a snagging risk for ropes/helmets
  • Sweets or other food
  • Hair dryers/beauty equipment

What we CAN bring:

  • A small toy or comfort from home that children can keep in their dormitory (please don't pack anything of significant sentimental value if there is a risk of damage or loss, however we appreciate some chidlren may want a soft toy for bedtime etc.)
  • A labelled packed lunch box and drinks bottle (ESSENTIAL ITEMS)
  • A small torch
  • Plenty of small change for the pool table/games room
  • A small commodity of pocket money - no more than £10 please.
